Community Outreach Programs

Birch Hill Farm is proud to be a part of our local community. We feel strongly about doing our part in giving back to the community through our outreach programs.

High School students learn about our sugar bush, and tapping a maple tree. Discussing how maple syrup is made in our sugar house.

We intend our community outreach programs to be diverse and multi-disciplinary. In the recent past, we have held various on-site working demonstrations and workshops.

Outreach Program Topics

We have sponsored such programs as:

  • Sugaring & Maple Syrup (an on-site demonstration to our local high school students, which included a talk given by an organic certification specialist)
  • Alternative & Solar Energy (which included a tour of our efforts toward providing solar integrated power supply to three-quarters of the farm's buildings)
  • Forestry (reviewing work done by our forester prior to logging; we intend to bring the attendees back to the farm to show the results of the process of maintaining our sugar bush)
  • Invasive Species Field Tour (in association with the Vermont Grass Farmers Association)
  • Garden Club (a tour through Birch Hill Farm's flower gardens)

Vermont Farm to School Mentor Program

We are also pleased to be a member of the Vermont Farm to School Mentor program. Farm to School Mentors are working to make farms and farmers more prominent educational resources in every community in Vermont.
