Our Naturally Raised Katahdin Sheep

Birch Hill Farm is home to grass-fed Katahdin sheep. We have chosen the Katahdin breed for their hardiness and for the quality of their meat.

Katahdins are adaptable, low-maintenance sheep that produce superior lamb crops and lean, meaty carcasses. They are a hair sheep breed, and do not produce a fleece (and therefore do not require shearing). They are medium-sized and hardy, and easy to handle in a variety of management systems.

Locally Grown

Our animals live a natural life -- eating naturally, and behaving naturally. They feed on green Vermont pasture, and are fed no hormones.

Our pastures are managed with an intensive rotational grazing program, which benefits both our animals and the quality of our pastures.

Benefits of Grass-Fed Meats

Meat from these animals provides your family with a healthy alternative to the factory-raised products found in many supermarkets. Grass-fed meats contain higher levels of healthy essential fats such as Omega-3 and Conjugated Linoleic Acids.
